Who We Are

Founded as one of the first medical societies, Leicester Insight is the most established peer-led teaching initiative at Leicester Medical School, providing academic support to students in a multitude of interactive formats, including lectures, group work tutorials, practical demonstrations and full mock OSCEs.

Catering for students across all five years, our tailored and structured revision events are designed to help consolidate knowledge, and, with the insight of older students, we offer extra support, help and guidance in preparing for exams and life as a doctor. Check out more event snaps in our gallery.

Our Ethos

Picture
Central to our ethos is the integration of concepts across modules. Using cross-modular exam-style questions and case-based scenarios, we advocate a global method of revision, demonstrating how to interlink your understanding of different body systems and psychosocial aspects to work through clinical scenarios. We feel this is paramount to becoming holistic-minded clinicians.

We strive to piece knowledge together, critically appraising information and asking the searching “what if...?” questions.  Thus, underpinning our material is the concept of active learning, encouraging the application of principles and utilising a structured approach to solve unfamiliar problems. Furthermore, as a vertical theme to our sessions, we aim to aid with revision strategies, equipping students with an armoury of techniques to deal with uncertainty, thereby building resilience – an imperative quality in clinical practice. Above all, we are passionate about our subject and hope to spread the flair!

Creating Opportunities

Not only is the society a useful revision tool for students, but it also provides the opportunity for students with an interest in medical education to hone their teaching techniques from an early stage, supporting their personal and professional development. We believe this is an essential skill for the future, as teaching is an intrinsic part of a doctor’s life. It is always a pleasure to see students flourish in this field; indeed many of the Leicester Insight Alumni are pursuing medical education as part of their careers, some of whom have received awards from the University and have become Clinical Teaching Fellows at Leicester Medical School.
